Why it matters
Employing a nanny comes with real paperwork.
Taxes, both sides
Social Security, Medicare and income tax withheld from each paycheck, plus the employer taxes you owe on top.
Filings, all year
Quarterly state reports, federal household employment taxes with your return, and a W-2 every January.
Rules that protect both of you
Overtime, paid sick leave and a written wage notice. Getting them right is how a good working relationship starts.
How it works
Three steps, then it runs itself.
- 1
Tell us about the job
Hours, pay, start date and what matters to your family. A few minutes on your phone.
- 2
Sign a fair contract together
Steph drafts an employment contract in plain words. You and your nanny read it, ask for changes, and sign in the app.
- 3
Every payday, handled
Steph works out the paycheck, you approve it, your nanny is paid. Taxes are set aside and filed on time.

Our promise
How we'll look after your family.
You stay in charge
Nothing is paid or filed without your OK. You can watch Steph fill in a government form, step by step.
No guesswork
Every answer on a tax form comes from what you signed or a written rule, never a guess. When something is unclear, we stop and ask.
Your data, protected
Sensitive details are encrypted, and we never ask for or store your passwords for government sites.
One clear price
A single monthly price with everything included. We'll publish it before we open.
When does Steph open?
Soon. We're running payroll for our own family first, so every part is tested on a real household before yours. Ask for early access and we'll write when there's a place for you.
Where is Steph available?
We're starting with California, where the rules for household employers are among the most detailed. More states will follow.
Do I really need payroll for a part-time nanny?
Often, yes. Once you pay a household employee more than a yearly threshold set by the IRS, you owe employment taxes, and most states have their own rules. Steph checks this for you.
How much will it cost?
One monthly price per family, with everything included: payroll, taxes and filings. We'll publish it before we open.
Can my nanny use Steph?
Yes. Your nanny gets their own free app for their schedule, time off, pay stubs and documents.
